That evening I didn’t drink, didn’t sing, Spent the whole time looking at her, The way children stare, the way children stare. But the guy who was with her before, He told me I’d better leave, He told me I’d better leave, That I didn’t’ have a chance. And the guy who was with her before, He insulted me, he threatened me, And I remember everything, I wasn’t drunk! When I did decide to leave, She said to me: Don’t be in such a hurry! She said to me: Don’t be in such a hurry, The evening is still young. But the guy who was with her before, He didn’t forget me, I guess, And once in the fall, once in the fall, I’m walking along with a friend, And they’re standing there in a row, And they’re standing there in a row, Eight of them in all. I’ve got my knife with me, so I say: You won’t take me so easy. Beware, you bastards! beware! Why cash in for nothing? Then, I was the first to strike, I made the first move. It had to be that way. But the guy who was with her before, He cooked up the whole mess, Serious about it, too, serious: Somebody jumped me from behind. Valiukha yelled: Watch out! Valiukha yelled: Watch out! But it was too late! You can only die once. And there’s an infirmary in jail. I spent some time there, some time. The doc cut me up and down. He said to me: Hang on, brother. He said to me: Hang on. And I hung on - The parting passed in an instant... She didn’t wait for me, But I forgive her, forgive her. Of course, I forgave her. But I’ll not excuse the guy Who was with her before - I’ll show him!
